Asked by A driver, Cherry Log GA
Unexpected shift on mountain descents
THE QUESTION
Going down steep mountain roads and then accelerating again, my transmission sometimes shifts unexpectedly. Is that normal behavior, or could it indicate a developing issue?
MIKE'S ANSWER

Only after evaluating how the transmission performs under load do we determine whether the behavior is normal or requires repair.

We Don't Guess. We Diagnose.

Mountain driving places unique demands on a transmission. Some shift changes are part of the vehicle's normal programming, while others can signal an emerging problem. The difference comes from understanding what the transmission is trying to do—not just noticing that it shifted differently.
