Not every Check Engine Light signals a major repair.
Sometimes the cause is as simple as a loose gas cap.

The Check Engine Light is a request for diagnosis—not a diagnosis itself.
Why a Loose Gas Cap Turns on the Light
Your fuel system is sealed to prevent gasoline vapors from escaping into the atmosphere.
If the gas cap isn't tightened properly—or the seal is damaged—the vehicle may detect a leak in the EVAP (Evaporative Emissions) system.
When that happens, the computer stores a fault code and turns on the Check Engine Light.
The engine may run perfectly even though the light is on.
Simple Doesn't Mean Unimportant
A loose gas cap is simple to fix.
But not every EVAP code is caused by the gas cap.
Similar codes can also result from:
Cracked EVAP hoses.
Faulty purge valves.
Leaking vent valves.
Damaged charcoal canisters.
Wiring problems.
Pressure sensor faults.
That's why we verify the cause before replacing parts.
Not Every Check Engine Light Means "Stop Driving"
Some faults are relatively minor.
Others require immediate attention.
For example:
A loose gas cap may simply trigger an emissions code.
But a flashing Check Engine Light can indicate an active engine misfire that could damage the catalytic converter if ignored.
Knowing the difference matters.
Don't Replace Parts Based on a Code
Many people visit a parts store, have the vehicle scanned, and are told:
"The code says oxygen sensor."
Not necessarily.
The code may indicate the oxygen sensor is reporting a problem—not causing it.
The real issue could be:
A vacuum leak.
Low fuel pressure.
An exhaust leak.
Engine misfire.
Wiring fault.
That's why diagnosis comes before parts replacement.
