Asked by A driver, Chatsworth GA
Check engine light, shifts fine
THE QUESTION
I have a check engine light on and the transmission seems to shift fine. Can transmission problems trigger engine codes even when there are no obvious transmission symptoms?
MIKE'S ANSWER

Yes. Modern vehicles have multiple computers that constantly share information. A problem affecting the transmission can sometimes trigger a Check Engine light long before you notice any change in how the vehicle drives.

In some cases, the transmission may continue to shift normally while the computer has already detected a fault.
